Government debt remains high, while much of our wealth depends on banks, pensions, property and financial markets. None of these pressures guarantees a crisis. One reason to review. ## A changing backdrop deserves a considered response. 01 ### Persistent inflation Prices continue rising even when the inflation rate begins to fall. 02 ### Global instability Conflict, trade disruption and energy shocks can reach household finances quickly. 03 ### Debt and monetary pressure High borrowing can leave less room when the next shock arrives. 04 ### Concentrated wealth Banks, pensions, property and markets may be more connected than they appear. The case for preparation ## The pressure is not coming from one direction. Why now is not a prediction that one event will break the system. It is a recognition that several familiar pressures are arriving together—and that preparation is easier before circumstances make the decision for you. Inflation 2.9% ### Prices are still moving higher. UK CPI rose 2.9% in the year to July 2026, up from 2.6%. A lower inflation rate still means the cost of living is increasing. Public debt ~95% ### Debt remains high by historic standards. UK public-sector net debt is close to the value of one year's GDP. That can leave less room when another economic shock arrives. Interest rates 3.75% ### Money is no longer exceptionally cheap. Bank Rate remains well above the near-zero levels households became used to. Borrowing and asset values remain sensitive to policy. Global risk GLOBAL ### Uncertainty travels quickly. Wars, disrupted trade and energy shocks can affect currencies, prices and markets long before they reach our own doorstep. Gold is not a substitute for day-to-day liquidity. 02 ### Reduce concentration If most wealth depends on banks, property, pensions or markets, another form of ownership can add balance. 03 ### Own something directly Physical gold is not a promise from a company or platform. Choose delivery or specialist allocated storage. 04 ### Choose suitable gold Investment gold is VAT-exempt.
