The 2019 Falcon of the Plantagenets is the sixth release in The Royal Mint’s prestigious Queen’s Beasts series, which pays tribute to the ten heraldic statues that flanked the entrance to Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation ceremony. Each creature in the collection represents a vital strand of the Queen’s royal ancestry. The Falcon of the Plantagenets stands as a symbol of determination, watchfulness, and regal authority.
This edition features the striking White Falcon, a creature historically associated with the powerful Plantagenet dynasty. With its keen gaze and powerful stance, the falcon represents unwavering strength and rightful sovereignty—qualities deeply rooted in Britain’s monarchical past.
The obverse of the coin bears the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark. The inscription surrounding Her Majesty’s likeness reads: “ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F • D • 100 POUNDS.”
On the reverse, also crafted by Jody Clark, the falcon is shown clutching a shield adorned with a badge of its lineage. The outer edge carries the inscription: “FALCON OF THE PLANTAGENETS • 1 oz • FINE GOLD • 999.9 • 2019.”
