The 2020 White Horse of Hanover is the ninth release in The Royal Mint’s celebrated Queen’s Beasts series — a tribute to the ten heraldic statues that stood guard at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. Each coin in the series honours a symbolic beast representing a different strand of the monarchy’s ancestry. The White Horse of Hanover, featured in this edition, reflects the British royal family’s deep-rooted German heritage and symbolises loyalty, strength, and duty.
On the reverse, the White Horse is shown in a powerful rearing stance above a shield bearing the arms of the House of Hanover — a striking design crafted by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark. The surrounding inscription reads: “WHITE HORSE OF HANOVER • 1 oz • FINE GOLD • 999.9 • 2020”, confirming the coin’s purity, weight, and year of issue.
The obverse of the coin also features the work of Jody Clark — the fifth and final definitive portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Encircling the effigy is the traditional text: “ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F • D • 100 POUNDS”, reinforcing the coin’s legal tender status and royal connection.
