Product Description:
The Queen’s Beasts Collection continues with the White Lion of Mortimer bullion coin, the second lion to appear in the series. In contrast to the fierce Lion of England that opened the collection, the White Lion is shown seated and composed, symbolising loyalty and discipline. Both designs were created by Royal Mint coin designer Jody Clark.
The heraldic beasts were first introduced at Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953, where ten statues represented her royal ancestry. The White Lion of Mortimer reflects The Queen’s Yorkist heritage and was first used by Roger Mortimer, Earl of March, before passing to the House of York and later monarchs including Edward IV.
Reimagined in coin form, the design highlights the Lion’s mane, tail, and shield, bearing the white rose of York set against golden rays of the sun. This powerful bullion coin captures both historic significance and enduring royal symbolism.
This coin is graded and certified by the NGC, slabbed in a protective case to authenticate and preserve the coin's condition.
